Structure & Management

Structure and management of the consortium

The members of the Serenity consortium are : Athens Technology Center (Greece), ATOS (Spain), City University of London (united Kingdom), Deep Blue (Italy), Engineering Ingegneria Informatica S.p.A (Italy), Fraunhofer SIT (Germany), Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium), Telefonica I+D (Spain), SAP (Germany) , Security Technology Competence Centre (Slovenia), Strategies Telecoms & Multimedia (France), Thales (France), University of Trento (Italy), University of Aegean (Greece) and University of Malaga (Spain).

Structured like a company
To manage project complexity and achieve exploitable results, the SERENITY Integrated Project is structured like a company, with a Board of Directors that takes the strategic decisions for the project evolution. The board will include all the directors and is chaired by the Project Director. The directors are :
  • the Technical Director (equivalent to the Chief Technology Officer in a real company),
  • the Innovation Director (equivalent to the Products Development Director),
  • the Exploitation Director (equivalent to the Commercial and Marketing Director),
  • and the Research Director acting as him/herself.
Moreover, due the administrative complexity of an Integrated Project, in the staff of the Project Director the Administrative and Finance Director (equivalent to the Chief of Finance) will also be included.

5 focus Activities
These activities provide the foundation and technological content upon which the project is built. Each focus activity focuses on a specific issue recognized to be critical to make the systems secure and dependable.
  • Organization & Business will focus on high-level business, management and organizational policies for privacy and security at enterprise level.
  • Workflow and services will focus on inter-organisational workflows and virtual organisations. Worklows are conceived as automated business processes that coordinate the use of resources and services toward a business goal.
  • Network and devices is composed of two major work areas. Firstly the identification and formal specification of security and dependability requirements at the level of individual services, communication protocols, middleware, and devices. Secondly, solutions for the provision of these requirements are identified and specified in order to be integrated into the SERENITY framework.
  • Run-time Support will focus on the development of support for run-time monitoring of S&D requirements and solutions, and reaction to breaches and threats of them.
  • Integration Schemes will target the development and validation of Integration Schemes for incorporation into the SERENTITY framework. security and dependability Patterns and Integration Schemes are precise specifications of validated security mechanisms.
3 integrations activities
Integration activities take the results generated by focus activities, integrate them in a coherent framework and assess and improve their applicability using the selected scenarios. Integrated activities also include all issues related to industrialization, dissemination and exploitation of the resulting framework.
  • SERENITY Supporting Environment aims at the realization of an integrated framework containing all the tools that have been produced by the different focus activities.
  • SERENITY scenarios aims to develop a set of specific scenarios taken from domains showing the security and dependability characteristics addressed by SERENITY, evaluate and assess all methods, techniques, and tools developed.
  • Dissemination and exploitation will focus on translating the SERENITY results into formats for wide dissemination to both technical and managerial audiences.
