An EU integrated project
A 7.8 millions euros EU funded Integrated Project
SERENITY brings together software companies, application solution developers and research institutions. This consortium will be driven by the need for security and dependability solutions in e-business, e-government and communication domains. SERENITY is part of the R&D European Union’s Sixth Framework Programme.
SERENITY brings together software companies, application solution developers and research institutions. This consortium will be driven by the need for security and dependability solutions in e-business, e-government and communication domains. SERENITY is part of the R&D European Union’s Sixth Framework Programme.
SERENITY research theme, security and dependability in AmI systems, is included in the strategic line "Towards a global dependability and security framework", in the Information Society Technologies (IST) European research program. Under the authority of the European Commission, within the Sixth Framework Programme, SERENITY will receive a 7.8 million euros funding, among an overall budget of 13.1 million euros.
As an EU Integrated Project, SERENITY is a multipartner project designed to support objective-driven research. The primary deliverable is generating the knowledge required to implement the thematic priorities. SERENITY is integrated in the following ways :
As an EU Integrated Project, SERENITY is a multipartner project designed to support objective-driven research. The primary deliverable is generating the knowledge required to implement the thematic priorities. SERENITY is integrated in the following ways :
- technically, through complementary focus areas (Activities) addressed by strong research teams, industrially, through multi-sectors application partners who share a common vision for the potential of security issues,
- managerially, through a strong management structure based on entrepreneurial practices,
- internationally, with 15 R&D teams from 9 different countries,
- personally, through strong existing working relationships between partners.
Dissemination
The SERENITY results will be iteratively made available to the community as soon as they are released according to the project plan and this will be announced in the Serenity magazine. With this approach it is expected to collect useful comments and suggestion from the whole community with the consequence to immediately start to build the SERENITY Community and meet the goal to become a reference point for the end of the project.

IPs bring together a critical mass of resources to reach ambitious goals aimed either at increasing Europe’s competitiveness or at addressing major societal needs. They contain a research component and may contain technological development, demonstration components and training component as appropriate.

The sixth FP is the European Union’s main instrument for research funding in Europe. Operational since 2003, FP6 aims to contribute to the creation of a true "European Research Area" (ERA). ERA is a vision of the future of research in Europe, an internal market for science and technology. It fosters scientific excellence, competitiveness and innovation through the promotion of better co-operation and coordination between relevant actors at all levels, in every members states.
